Government as Ransomware
Our names are an essential part of our identity.
From 1883 to 1996, residential schools were actively suppressing First Nations, Métis, and Inuit cultures. In many cases, children placed in residential schooling were made to replace their names with biblical names. By raising awareness to this issue I hope to encourage tech-savvy young adults to take action to push for these fees to be waived in the rest of Canada.
The Institute of Hidden Potential is a website designed to entice visitors to input their information within a form to receive a consultation of their latent abilities. However, instead of receiving a consultation, visitors are met with their identity declared stolen and must pay to reaquire it, mirroring the experience residential school survivors and their families face having to pay to reclaim their original names.
